Updates

Hello. I just wanted to talk about how often I will be providing updates, as well as what they will contain. As mentioned in the last post, I am currently in university, so progress is slow. I have managed to decide on a game engine easily accessible from another device, namely Godot, so expect a gameplay update next post.

Talking about posts though, due to the sluggish pace, I will probably only write updates once a month (if I remember).

Other than that, progress is going alright. Character design is ongoing and harder than expected, especially while learning how best to utilise the pixel art style . I find that bold, distinct colours is best thus far. Naming and finding inspiration is fun though, I’m looking forward to showing you guys some of my designs in an eventual demo. The guy above will hopefully even be a mini-boss in a demo.

Nailing a tone and the writing has been a bit of a problem. The original vision has definitely changed a lot, but it’s already done that multiple times as the story developed, long before this blog. I think I have found a tone that fits the themes and ideas well though, hopefully it’s enough to give the game a distinct identity.

Music has also been… difficult. I’ve been learning it from scratch for a year now, but it’s not quite the quality I want. Hopefully, joining music jams, or at least writing for them, will solve that, but that has yet to be seen.

As you may have seen, the game is planned to be a puzzle platformer. Unfortunately, I don’t have much experience with that either, and people spend their whole lives perfecting it. So … better start on that. This game isn’t meant to be too difficult anyway, so that will hopefully help.

So… yeah. Overall I’m just hoping I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew. Hopefully the extra time I’ve given myself will allow me to have something more presentable, maybe even some gameplay.

Till next time then!
